Victims.

In the movie 'The Crow' with Brandon Lee there is a scene where one of the bad guys is telling the Crow a sob story of why he did what he did. The Crow - Brandon Lee - says 'Victims, aren't we all?'. I love that line! It is so true.

Many people tend to think of themselves as victims. If a person becomes a drug addict, it is because he or she is a victim. If a person is obese it is due to them being a victim as a child. If a person robs and kills it is because they are victims of society or drugs or the economy. It never seems to end.

Our lives are largely a result of our own decisions. A child is not responsible if they are abused but how they chose to handle that as an adult is their decision. This person will choose whether to get help or not. They will choose whether to make something good come from their abuse like counselling other children or lobbying to change laws. Or they can choose to wallow and forever blame the negative aspects of their lives on that crime.

Many health problems are due to our own poor choices. If you haven't eaten correctly for years - instead spending too much time on alcohol, junk food, high fat foods etc - then your body is going to react negatively. There are also cases though where no matter how well a person takes care of themselves they will still have health problems. In that case we just have to learn to deal with our problems and not let them destroy us.

Bad things happen and it doesn't mean that anyone is being singled out. Do what is necessary to get over it and realize that even if you are the one affected by a horrific crime or any other tragedy you don't have to be a victim. That is your choice.
